The LED strategy has been developed. The focus of the projects is on Tourism, Agriculture, Manufacturing and SMME development. The projects in this category will contribute to skills development, income generation and job creation. Some of the key projects are indicated underneath.

Champaigne Chicken Abattoir
This project supply chicken to Kruger National Park, Hospitals, Schools and the public, the project created employment to 50 people.

Bushbuckridge Clay Brick Manufacturing
The project manufacture clay and paving bricks, it will create employment to 500 people.

Rolle Amarula Project
The project manufacture Marula Juice, Oil, Soup, Body Lotion and Perfume
The project created employment to 50 people.

Skills Development Programmes
Kruger National Park (KNP) offered 506 people training on conservation and tourism as awareness to career pathing.
Challenge: Skills very low and lacking in the municipal area.
Support Programmes for Cooperatives
Market support for Champaign cooperatives

The Tiger-eye shop is using Champaign abattoir for meat supply. The Kruger National Park helps in the packaging of their products to suit the target market.

SMME Development
Assistance was offered to aspirant entrepreneurs and the following skills were transferred:
Business advisory on tendering
Textile and brick manufacturing
Counseling on basic book-keeping, pricing and costing, and
Business plans and profiling.

The challenge is that most SMMEs do not have collaterals (10%) needed to secure loans and those applications are received late.

Infrastructure for trading markets and technical support
Community arts and crafts centres established at four entrants of the Kruger National Park and training offered on Business Management. Crafters are an integral part of tourism and there should be a commitment to develop them.
Car wash established in Skukuza and Satara camps through funding from Mpumalanga Rural Development programme. Entrepreneurs were trained.
Challenge:
More funds required.
Economic Profiling of the node.
Monitor Group appointed to conduct a feasibility study on the economic opportunities in the node and to come up recommendations on their findings. A Project Steering Committee will be established in October 2006.

LED summits
Both district and Bushbuckridge held their LED summits recently and clear programs of action to ensure implementation of the agreed commitments were mapped-out.
