The painting forms part of the 67 minutes of community services and each ward identified five senior citizens who were ferried to and from the event. Speaking at Marite Community Hall, the Executive Mayor started by giving a brief history of Mandela day celebration to the senior citizens.

The Executive Mayor also gave 107 blankets to the senior citizens to keep them warm from the chilly winter month. Last year, he celebrated Mandela day by partaking in a greening and cleaning campaign as part of the 67 minutes of community services and the Executive Mayor also gave away a computer set worth R22.000.00 to a physically –challenged university of Venda student to aid him in his studies.
Mandela day is an annual celebration of the life of Dr Nelson Mandela and a global call to action to use our energies to change the world. During the inaugural Mandela day, people across the world and from all walks of life took the future into their own hands by volunteering their time and energy to the cause of social justice.
By honouring Mandela’s legacy, the municipality is fostering the notion that every person can help change the world for the betterment of humankind. Values embraced by Mandela are: humility, reconciliation, loyalty, and forgiveness.
