Bushbuckridge Local Municipality through the EDPE Directorate handed over (GPS) Global Positioning System devices to Local Traditional Authorities on the 13th of February 2014 at the Thulamahashe Council Chamber (former Bohlabela building) at 10H00. The objective of the hand over was to among other things;
– assist Local Chiefs and Indunas to avoid allocating one piece of land to more than one applicant because the devices can keep records of the land allocated and to whom.
– elude confusion of one size of land allocated is bigger or smaller than the actual space available.
– applicant claiming to be allocated a different size than the one allocated by the Traditional Authority.
Bushbuckridge Local Municipality is the first and the only Local Municipality in Mpumalanga to have offered Local Chiefs such valuable devices. During his key note address, the Acting Executive Mayor MMC F. Sibuyi edged community members to be patient when it comes to land allocations. He further reminded Local Chiefs that the government and Traditional Council are partners in development. He further indicated that land redistribution is a national crisis and the government is doing all it can to ensure land expropriation happens rapidly and in a manner that won’t jeopardise economic activities for the benefit of all previously disadvantaged communities.
